Grade 9 Night

CCI Guidance is asking that all Grade 8 students and their parents keep Wednesday, Janauary 6, 2021 in their calendars open for their Grade 9 Transition night.  This is typically a night to visit the school and speak to teachers and guidance about what to expect in Grade 9.

Obviously this year's edition will be different and the high school is planning for this to be a virtual event.

Agenda for Wednesday

I have Board stuff to do early tomorrow, so we will not begin our 'Hangout' until 11am.  We will cover a new topic in Algebra.  Also, our lab is due Thursday, so this would be a good time to ask Q's about it.

Hangouts

I will be on Hangouts today at 10am to answer Q's about yesterday's Math work and the Buoyancy Lab.  No need to join if you are not having any difficulties.

Google Hangouts

I want to try to meet as a class tomorrow at 10am.  Please practice today with 'hangouts' and we will give it a try.  I'm sure it won't go smoothly at first.  It's a huge group to organize.  But hopefully as time goes by, we can iron out the kinks.  I'd like to try a math lesson and to answer any questions you may have.

Again:  practice today with a classmate on 'hangouts' to ensure your computer settings are correct (e.g. microphone is turned on, camera works, etc.)  If you're not able to join, no worries.  You can get the info from a classmate.

If there's a time that works better for the entire class than 10am, let me know.

See you all tomorrow!

Mr. Bowhey.

Solution to Q #4

a couple of you have had trouble with Q #4.  here's an explanation:

if the mass weighed 100N in air and then 85N in water, it's % mass in water would be:

[ weight in water / weight in air ] x 100
= [ 85N / 100N ] x 100
= .85 x 100
= 85 %

so the mass only weighs 85% of its initial weight when it's sitting in water.  knowing that %, you could then predict (calculate) how much you would weigh in water if you knew your weight in air, right?
